A few weeks ago we reported on Jeffrey Kruger’s inaugural win on international soil. The Johannesburg lad is currently contesting the South African and Indian versions of the Polo R Cup series. Kruger doubled his win tally on the Sub-Continent when he netted another win this past weekend.
Kruger qualified on the front row fractionally behind the pole-sitter Prashanth Tharani for race one. A brief shunt during the opening phase of the race unsettled the East Rand resident and after recovering from a partial spin he spent the rest of the race chasing the race leader. Despite his best efforts he could not pass the pole man who went on to win with Kruger holding station in second.
Race two started with the first eight finishers from heat one in reverse grid order, which left Kruger on the seventh grid slot. A fast starting Rahil Noorani, who finished race one in third scooted ahead from from 6th. He went from sixth to leading in just two laps. Noorani went on to win on the road.
Kruger made steady progress through the race and wisely held station in second place. He had earlier noted a blantant jump start by Noorani. Post-race Noorani received a 20 second penalty, which pushed him down to seventh. This promoted Kruger to the top step of the podium, which he shared with Prashanth Tharani and Yatin Magu.
“I was extremely happy with my performance over the weekend, which included the fastest lap in race one and enjoyed the wheel to wheel action in race two. Once again it was an honour to be on the top step of the podium once more,” said an excited Kruger upon his return to SA earlier today.
