Earlier this week we reported on the upcoming facelifted 3 Series, as well as the new entry-level and plug-in-hybrid derivative we can expect. Now news has surfaced about the model which will slot in below the M3/M4.
The 335i with its turbocharged, in-line six-cylinder engine has always been the sleeper in the range. It didn’t look a lot different than any other 3 Series, but it also was not a lot slower than the previous generation M3.
It seems the BMW 335i will now be replaced by the BMW 340i. The N55 engine will be swapped for a new B58 engine. This will still be an in-line, six-cylinder turbocharged engine, but power will increase from 225 kW to 240 kW. Expect a reduction in the 0-100 km/h acceleration time and the average fuel consumption figure.
We can only assume that there will be much more in store for this engine, and that power upgrades will also be available.
