[Chery News] The recent Shanghai Motor Show saw Chery showcasing its new design philosophy as well as a suite of technological advancements earmarked for future models.
In addition to a number of aesthetic changes to its existing nine-model product range, Chery also showed off a brace of concepts hinting at the firm’s more futuristic and premium-placed design direction.
Falling under the technological and aesthetic umbrella term of iAuto were the M16 sedan-based α7 (alpha 7) and the β5 (beta 5) compact SUV.
The α7 is the first physical application of the firm’s third-generation ACTECO “Intelligent Efficiency Powertrain System” that utilises several new technologies, including CVT transmissions, in a bid to improve both fuel efficiency and emissions.
Chery also showcased its CLOUDRIVE in-car entertainment technology – a system with internet connectivity that stores media in an external data cloud facility.
The β5 compact SUV further showcases Chery’s more contemporary styling approach since the company’s recent rebranding. It draws its 136 kW and 220 N.m from a turbocharged 1,6-litre petrol engine coupled with a newly developed CVT transmission. It will reach production later in the year wearing the T21 moniker.
This latest raft of developments come on the back of a company directive that the Chery brand needs to look beyond the domestic market and become a major player on a global scale.
