[Geely News] Geely has just launched a new saloon in South Africa and this also marks the launch of the Geely sub-brand, Emgrand, in the local market. The entry-level Emgrand EC7 saloon retails from R149 990.
There is one engine on offer – a four-cylinder 1,8-litre petrol engine with CVVT (continuous variable valve timing) technology. This unit has a maximum output of 102 kW at 6 000 r/min and 172 N.m of torque at 4 200 r/min. Mated with a five-speed manual transmission, Geely claims a zero-to-100 km/h time of 10,5 seconds and a top speed of 185 km/h. A six-speed automatic transmission will be available towards the end of the year.
With a length of 4 635 mm, a width of 1 798 mm, a height of 1 470 mm and a wheelbase of 2 650 mm, the EC7 is a full-sized family saloon. Geely believes that it offers class-leading leg- and headroom for all occupants. Boot space is a claimed 680 dm3.
The Chinese manufacturer has equipped the EC7 with a generous amount of standard specification. There are two specification levels – GL Luxury and GT Executive. Standard across the range are alloy wheels, dual front airbags (plus side curtains on the Executive model), electrically operated side mirrors, climate control, park assist, leather seats, an MP3-compatible audio system and ABS with EBD. The GT Executive version comes with an electric glass sunroof.
