Whereas Porsche and McLaren have been quite open about its latest hypercars, Ferrari has kept its LaFerrari, as well as all the finer details surrounding the car, away from the press. As the international launch of Maranello’s hypercar is said to start tomorrow, it has now surfaced that Ferrari is already hard at work on a stripped out, track only, XX version.
According to reports, the XX will not have more power than the standard version, but the focus will be on improving several elements throughout the car, i.e. suspension, aerodynamics, electronics and slick tyres. The result will be a car that is purely aimed at being as fast around a track as possible.
Ferrari did the same exercise with the Enzo, which had a track-only FXX version which Ferrari used to ship around the world to different tracks for the owners to experience. These cars were also used to collect data which helped Ferrari with its R&D.
The next question is obviously how fast is the LaFerrari around the ‘Ring. Only Porsche has made its time for the 918 public – 6:57 seconds. There were rumours that McLaren’s P1 did an impressive 6:47.
It seems that the track-only XX, during its development phase did an astonishing 6:35. That should leave the standard LaFerrari close to the McLaren’s time.
Only time will tell which car comes out on top.
