The Leopard 5 blends classic and modern off-road aesthetics, featuring boxy fenders, aluminium-style skid plates, and a rear-mounted spare wheel. Depending on the trim, the SUV is available with either 18-inch BFGoodrich A/T tyres or 20-inch Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. Its dimensions are slightly more compact than the latest Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, measuring 4 890 mm in length, 1 970 mm in width, 1 920 mm in height, and a 2 800 mm wheelbase. This robust design is complemented by practical off-road capabilities.

During its launch at the Chengdu Motor Show, BYD highlighted the Leopard 5’s impressive off-road specifications. The SUV boasts a 39° approach angle, a 35° departure angle, and a 27° breakover angle. It features a maximum ground clearance of 310 mm, with the ability to adjust the suspension up to 140 mm, thanks to BYD’s Disus-P suspension system. This advanced suspension technology enhances the vehicle’s adaptability on challenging terrains.
Built on a ladder-frame architecture, the Leopard 5 is powered by BYD’s Dual Mode Off-Road (DMO) plug-in hybrid system. This system combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with dual electric motors, delivering a total output of 505 kW and 760 N.m of torque. This setup allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h. Power is distributed to all four wheels through a 4WD system that includes three differential locks, ensuring optimal traction and stability in various driving conditions.
The Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 5 represents BYD’s latest venture into the high-end SUV market, offering a vehicle that balances off-road capability with modern hybrid technology. This new model is poised to attract enthusiasts looking for a rugged yet refined off-road experience.
