Lamborghini’s long-awaited SUV, the Urus, has been confirmed for production in 2018. This after it was originally planned for launch in 2016, and then 2017.
After positive public reception at the Beijing Motor Show in 2012, where the Urus concept made its international debut, the Sant’Agata-based manufacturer decided to put the SUV in the production pipeline.
According to Autocar, Audi chairman Rupert Stadler has confirmed that the Urus is being developed alongside other SUVs due from the Volkswagen Group, such as the next generation Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Bentley’s own SUV – which is yet to be named.
Apparently, the production Urus won’t deviate too much from the 2012 concept so it’ll retain a jet-fighter look and Mr Stadler has also confirmed that it “won’t be a softie” – keeping to the Lamborghini tradition of building hardcore driving machines.
There’s been talk of a turbodiesel motor nestled underneath the Urus’ bonnet but the Group’s twin-turbocharged petrol V8 as used in the RS7, coupled with an electric motor for a combined 500 kW, is the more likely option.
