Volvo is continuing to drip feed us with bits of information about its upcoming XC90. First the company released interior details, and now it’s given us power and claimed fuel consumption figures.
The Swedish manufacturer (but Chinese owned) company, has confirmed that as before, the XC90 will offer all-wheel drive while there would be seats for up to seven people.
According to Volvo, this SUV will offer up to 290 kW/630 N.m, while returning only 60 g/km on the NEDC driving cycle.
Engine range
It seems as if the new car will be offered with several of Volvo’s 2,0-litre, four-cylinder Drive-E engines. This means there will be turbopetrol and turbodiesel engines set at different power and torque deliveries.
This include the D5 (165 kW/470 N.m) delivering 6,0 litres per 100 km and the D4 (140 kW/400 N.m) using 5,0 litres per 100 km.
Two two turbopetrol units will be the T6 with a turbo- and superchager (235 kW/400 N.m) and finally the T5 (187 kW/350 N.m).
New technology
The new XC90 will also introduce Volvo’s new “Twin Engine” badge and technology. On this debut SUV the “T8” badge will be added to the plug-in hybrid car, which will also be the most powerful model in the range. This Drive-E engine will feature a super- and turbocharged engine together with a 60 kW electric motor which will drive the rear wheels.
The supercharger will do its job in the lower part of the rev range, while the turbo will deliver additional boost higher up the rev range. Select the electric mode, and the T8 should be able to cover 40 km on electric power.
The new Volvo XC90 will be unveiled, in its entirety, before the end of the year and Volvo South Africa has confirmed that the T8 will form part of the local model line-up.
Local introduction will only take place early next year.
