A teaser video of the 2014 Mini Cooper has been released ahead of the new model’s official reveal next week. As can be expected, the video doesn’t reveal much, but we do know a few details about “The New Original”.
The 2014 Mini will definitely be bigger than its predecessor and the new car rides on the shared UKL1 platform that is destined to also underpin new small front-wheel-drive BMWs. Despite the increase in size, the car will weigh significantly less than before thanks to the increased use of higher-strength steels in its construction.
Powertrain details are fairly well known, with one diesel and two petrol motors available immediately. The 1,5-litre oil burner will make 85 kW and 270 N.m of torque, while the first of the petrol units is a turbocharged 1,5-litre that makes 100 kW and 220 N.m of torque. The range-topper is a 2,0-litre turbocharged unit that produces 142 kW and 280 N.m of torque. S and JCW versions will get uprated versions of the 2,0-litre motor.
The new Mini’s features will include a new head-up display unit, collision and pedestrian warning system which functions via a windshield mounted camera, a headlamp assist system that automatically deactivates the high beams in the case of oncoming traffic, a new, lighter braking system and revised power steering.
More details on the new Mini will be available when the car makes its debut next week.
