In an expected move, Porsche has revealed its latest addition to the 911 range, the more powerful Carrera GTS. It is expected as we have seen several spy pictures of what we anticipated to be the new GTS, but it is also unexpected at the same time as the previous 997-generation Carrera GTS was only released as a rather good run-out model.
Nevertheless, the new Carrera GTS does feature some appetising improvements above the standard Carrera S model.
To start off with, the GTS will be available in both coupe and cabriolet derivatives, all-wheel drive and for the enthusiasts, rear-wheel drive as well. Porsche even goes as far as describing the GTS as filling the gap between the Carrera S and the GT3.
The 3,8-litre, flat-six cylinder engine is tuned to develop 316 kW, 22 kW more than that of the Carrera S. Standard equipment includes the Sport Chrono package and PASM (Porsche active suspension management), latter results in a lowered ride height of 10 millimetres.
The acceleration run from standstill to 100 km/h is dealt with in only 4,0 seconds, 0,1 seconds quicker than a Carrera S with the Sport chrono package. According to Porsche is the top speed of each GTS model higher than 300 km/h, with the manual, rear-wheel drive coupe taking the cake at 306 km/h.
As was the case before, GTS models also come with a host of standard features. These include bi-xenon headlights with Porsche’s Dynamic Light System , a sport exhaust system, Alcantara interior with leather-trimmed sport seats.
All GTS models will also feature the wider Carrera 4 body. This means wider rear wheel arches and a wider track, leading to a slight improvement in car’s footprint. Each corner gets 20-inch, centre-wheel locks, and the front of the car features a special bumper with wider sills running along the side of the car.
These four new models can now be ordered through Porsche South Africa.
