Finally, Mercedes-Benz has shown us some official images of their much-vaunted new sports car, the Mercedes-AMG GT. And just look at it… it’s a thing of beauty and certainly well worth the wait.
A lot curvier than we all anticipated – and certainly showing more sensual lines than the SLS AMG it replaced – the new car manages a clever blend of current Merc styling and the rounded curves of an ancestor like the legendary 300 SLR “Uhlenhaut” coupe.
There will be two models – the AMG GT and the pricier AMG GT S. The former features a 339 kW, 600 N.m twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. A 0-100 km/h of 4 seconds dead and an electronically-limited top speed of 304 km/h are its quoted figures. The S model ups the ante with a more powerful twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 engine good for 375 kW and 650 N.m This means it go from 0-100 km/h in just 3,8 seconds and boast an electronically-limited 310 km/h top speed.
Bringing the AMG GT to a halt are 360 mm internally ventilated and perforated disc brakes, while the AMG GT S has bigger 390 mm stoppers discs and red brake calipers. Carbon ceramic brake discs (402 mm front / 360 mm rear) are also an option.
Thanks to a mix of aluminum, steel and magnesium in the chassis, the car is said to weigh just 1 540 kg. Helping the car’s handling is a mechanical rear-axle locking differential in the entry-level AMG GT, while the S gets an electronic version. This range-topper also comes with AMG Ride Control that sees electronically controlled dampers allow the driver to toggle between Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus driving modes. You can also order your AMG GT S with an optional AMG Dynamic Plus package which adds dynamic engine and transmission mounts.
As we saw from images leaked a few months back, inside you get leather/fabric sport seats with an option of silver chrome, matte carbon fibre, high-gloss carbon fibre, black diamond or matte silver fibreglass trim.
The AMG GT will be launched to world’s media in the next two months, followed by the local introduction early next year.
