Thought Porsche’s most focused, mid-engined sports car — the 718 Cayman GT4 RS — couldn’t get more extreme? Well, think again. Manthey Racing has fitted the apex Cayman with a brand-new Manthey Racing kit, which comprises a host of mechanical upgrades and fresh aerodynamic elements for increased downforce.

Priced at nearly R1 million (R993 129.68 at the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate, excluding the price of the donor car), the package includes an upgraded braking system, replete with new brake pads, manually adjustable coilovers for the suspension arrangement, and several items aimed at enhancing the rear-wheel-driven sportscar’s aerodynamics. The latter comes in the shape of a larger rear spoiler and aero discs on the aft alloy wheels. Thanks to the aero updates, downforce when travelling at 200 km/h has been increased by 80 kg.

As a reminder, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is equipped with Porsche’s sonorous flat-six. The free-breathing petrol unit, which is exclusively coupled with the German marque’s rapid-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, produces 368 kW and 450 N.m of torque, available from 8 400 r/min to a red line of 9 000 r/min and from 6 750 r/min, respectively. The Stuttgart-based brand claims these figures allow the pinnacle Cayman to complete the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.4 seconds, before topping out at a maximum speed of 315 km/h. While the modifications don’t necessarily improve the power output, they are sure to improve handling precision which would result in faster lap times!
