A few weeks ago we reported on Porsche GT3s that were catching on fire for unexplained reasons. Five brand new 991-series GT3s had caught alight in different parts of Europe prompting the German manufacturer to halt deliveries of any more customer cars. Thankfully the occupants managed to get clear of the burning cars without sustaining injuries.
Porsche even prompted the 785 owners who have already taken delivery not to drive their cars until the source of the fires had been ascertained. Interestingly, two of the fires followed from engine failures.
Speaking to Bloomberg recently Chief Executive Officer Matthias Mueller commented, “We know the reason and the problem-solving measures. We’re testing them. Porsche plans to announce the technical solution “shortly” and will first inform customers”.
