Renault has revealed the local pricing of its entry-level Duster compact SUV model.
The Duster is set for its local launch on September 16, but Renault SA has already revealed that its base model, the Duster 1,6 Expression 4×2, will wear a R194 900 price tag.
Among this model’s standard features are air conditioning, ABS with EBD, power steering, front and side airbags, electric windows front and rear, electric mirrors, remote central locking, reverse parking sensors, front foglamps, roof rails, body-coloured door handles and mirrors, 16-inch wheels, CD/MP3/radio with Bluetooth connectivity, steering column-mounted audio controls.
Power is provided by a naturally aspirated 1,6-litre petrol engine developing 75 kW and 145 N.m of torque. A 1,5 litre turbodiesel powerplant will feature higher up in the Duster range.
Renault pegs the Duster as a solid all-purpose vehicle with a ground clearance of over 200 mm, a rugged undercarriage, and impressive approach and departure angles of 30 and 35 degrees, respectively. According to Renault, the Duster’s boot serves up 475 dm3 of loadspace.
The 4×4 models, for which the pricing will be released at the local launch, will feature a Nissan-sourced all-wheel drive control system with three presets: AUTO mode automatically apportions front/rear torque (from a front bias under normal conditions) according to grip levels. LOCK electronically locks it into 4×4 mode, whereby 50 per cent of torque is consistently fed through the rear axle. This mode is recommended in low grip conditions (snow, mud, dirt, sand) at low speeds. 4×2 mode locks the drivetrain into front-wheel drive for general driving conditions.
A service plan, a 5-year/150 000km warranty and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty are standard across the Renault Duster range.
