Audi has revealed its hot new RS7 at the Detroit Motor Show, and unlike the RS6 Avant (which will not be coming to South Africa), this one is destined for our shores and is due to arrive in the fourth quarter of this year.
The RS7 uses the same twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 engine as the RS6 Avant that delivers 412 kW and 700 N.m of torque. The engine is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission, transmitting power through Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system. The engine features cylinder-on-demand technology, resulting in a claimed EU combined cycle figure of 9,8 litres/100 km.
Audi claims a 0-100 km/h time of 3,9 seconds and a top speed limited to 250 km/h. The firm does, however, offer an Dynamic Package, raising the top speed to 280 km/h, as well as a Dynamic Plus Package, which unlocks 305 km/h…
Two suspension packages are offered as options – adaptive air suspension or a sport suspension with dynamic ride control. The RS7 standard wheels are 20-inch forged items, but 21-inch wheels are also offered (in three designs). Carbon ceramic brakes are also available.
The interior features a three-spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel, and there are also lap timer, boost pressure and oil temperature gauges. Carbon trim is offered, as well as the choice of black Alcantara/leather sport seats or all leather.
