The Le Mans 24-hour race is a once a year petrolhead fest unrivalled anywhere in the world. It leads motoring manufacturers to spend many millions building beautiful race cars to try and win this most romantic of races.
Audi has built a brand new car, the R18 TDi to take on on Peugeot who upset the German team’s dominant run by winning in 2009. This year we are being treated to a full 24 hours of uninterrupted coverage on TV, and if that is not enough for you, Audi has a special site devoted to the Le Mans 24-Hour, which provides you with live telemetry and in-car footage from the actual race car itself. If you look at the screenshot from the Audi site below, you can see the in-car camera view on the left, the speed and rev counters in the middle, and a map of the circuit on the bottom right-hand side showing the car’s position. There’s even telemetry readouts at the bottom for speed and r/min for the serious geeks as well as other little tit-bits of info like g-force, lap times etc.
With technology and social media on an unstoppable march, it’s amazing to think how much information we have access to now, especially for something like motorsport. Thanks to the Audi site below, you can literally follow your favourite Audi race-car online for the entire 24 hours of the race… a viable alternative if you are fighting with your kids for the TV remote!
