Previewed at last year’s Paris Motor Show as the Urban Crossover Concept, first images of Peugeot’s new compact crossover, the 2008, have now leaked out through France’s L’Argus magazine. Much is expected of the newcomer, particularly as Peugeot’s fortunes in Europe continue to slide and Euro carmakers put the focus on more affordable, more efficient vehicles.
The 2008 will battle the likes of the Nissan Juke and other forthcoming smaller crossovers. It is based on the 208’s platform and is likely to utilise that model’s engines too, including a 1,6-litre turbodiesel and 1,2- and 1,6-litre petrols. Will the 2008 come to South Africa? There’s no official word yet, but we expect it to, before year-end.
