A raft of significant changes have been made to Ford’s 2015 Fusion and these changes are also likely to impact on the South African bound Fusion.
For starters, Ford opted to do away with the 1,6-litre EcoBoost engine. Reason being, the manufacturer developed a smaller and just as efficient 1,5-litre EcoBoost engine. Since there would be no reason for Ford to keep both engines in its Fusion range, the 1,6 litre is being discontinued.
With that comes the consequence that the driver’s left leg will be resting more oftens. The only manual gearbox in the range that came with the 1,6-litre Fusion, have also been ditched.
The 2015 Ford Fusion will now feature more standard equipment, such as a backup camera and the entry-level Fusion S will feature ten-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels instead of steel wheels. Buyers will also get configurable daytime running lights as standard.
Four new body colours will also be added to the range: Bronze Fire Tinted Clearcoat Metallic, Guard, Tectonic and Magnetic.
The Fusion SE features a six-way power adjustable passenger seat, while the Fusion Titanium comes with a ten-way power adjustable passenger seat.
SE Appearance and SE Luxury variants will feature all-wheel drive.
It remains to seen how Ford South Africa will handle the raft of changes on the Fusion’s local launch in a few months’ time.
